Michael Wilson: Co Antrim FA Treasurer passes away

The County Antrim & District FA is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our friend, colleague, and long‑serving Treasurer, Michael Wilson, who died suddenly on Saturday.

Michael, who lived in Comber, served as Treasurer of the Association with unwavering dedication since 2005. His commitment to local football extended far beyond the Co Antrim FA; he also held key roles within the Down Area Winter Football League and the County Down SuperCupNI Committee, where he likewise served as Treasurer.

Michael’s involvement in junior football began in 1977, marking the start of nearly five decades of service to the game. His contribution was further recognised when he was elected to the Board of the Irish Football Association in December 2019. During his time on the Board, he served on the Audit and Risk Committee and acted as an Observer at meetings of the Irish FA Foundation Board. Prior to this, Michael had been a valued member of the Irish FA Council since 2007.

Michael’s untimely passing will be felt deeply across football in Northern Ireland. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Monina, his children, David, Cathy, Jayne and Clare at this profoundly difficult time.

On behalf of the Association, President Alistair Gray remarked: “The County Antrim FA are devastated to hear about the sudden death of our colleague and friend Michael Wilson. Michael has been the treasurer of the County Antrim & District FA from 2005, a role he fulfilled with the highest dedication and respect. Our thoughts and prayers as an association are with his Wife and family circle at this very sad time. From all his colleagues and friends at the County Antrim & District FA.”
